How To Apply
The University of Chicago participates
in the National Residency Matching Program. In 2004, the Department of
Medicine received 2,536 applications and selected
approximately 330 candidates for interviews. Selection for interview
is based on a number of factors, including academic performance,
clinical performance, particularly in medicine rotations, etc.
The University uses the Electronic
Residency Application Service (ERAS). In addition to the Common Application
Forms submitted through ERAS, we also require letters of recommendation
from the Dean, Chairman of Medicine, and two faculty members, as well
as a transcript and USMLE Scores, Parts I and II.

Residents interested in the Physician
Scientist Development Program (ABIM Research Pathway) should identify
themselves as candidates to the Physician Scientist Development Program
during the application process. As with categorical candidates, we require
letters of recommendation from the Dean, Chairman of Medicine, and two
faculty members, as well as a transcript and USMLE Scores, Parts I and
II. There are additional application materials which focus on research
experience and area of interest. Please see our web page on the Physician
Scientist Development Program for further information. Candidates
will match through an NRMP match dedicated specifically to the Physician
Scientist Training Program.
The deadline for completed applications
is December 2nd, 2005. Interviews generally begin in late November and
end in late January. Files are reviewed as they are completed and selected
applicants will be contacted to set up interviews.
