USMLE III

Passing this exam is required to be Board Eligible and for your licensure.

In past years, residents and chief residents alike struggled to schedule people for the exam.  The USMLE has now implemented computer based testing.  In this manner, there will be a great deal more flexibility in test-taking.

When you receive your annual schedule please make note of the months for your Ambulatory block.  To apply, send off all of the information listed below and the fee.   Upon receipt of this information the USMLE will then schedule you for a three month block of time when you are eligible to take the boards, if you do not do so in the allotted time, you will have to register AND pay again.  There is usually some lag time in the processing of you application, so we ask that you send in your application 2 months in advance.  This advance notice will guarantee that you will be able to take the test during your Ambulatory rotation, you will NOT be allowed to take the USMLE during an inpatient rotation even if this means reapplying.  Also note, that the elapsed time between USMLE I and USMLE III must be seven years.  If you are MD. PhD, there is a letter you can write for a waiver.  Please see us.
